| S. Ionian, Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean. Predator in the infralittoral. Original taxon: Cythara derelicta callosa. « 8-9 ribs on the body whorl, which are as wide as their interspaces. Spiral sculpture of many fine cords, with spaced stronger spirals, which are obsolete on the ribs. The latter are greyish, the rest of the shell being a dark purplish-brown. Aperture rather narrow, with a somewhat wide siphonal canal and a thickened outer lip. » (F. Nordsieck, quoted by C. Cachia, 1995). Notice also the dark spiral fascie on the last whorl, and a pale band, of the colour of the radial ribs, on the periphery. 3m deep, in grit, at the foot of the citadel, south of the harbour, Methóni, Messinia, Peloponnese, SW. Synonym: barashi Van Aartsen & Fehr de Wal, for the massive variant with angular whorls, sparse and coarse axial ribs, narrow mouth with a very reinforced lip. 8m deep, at base of a submarine bank of conglomerate, on detritic sand, east of Mochlos, northeastern side of the Kolpos Mirabellou, E. Lassithi, N. Crete. 4,75mm. « Protoconch paucispiral. Teleoconch: sculpture of thin spiral cords, alternating with stronger strings more sparsely disposed. The axial ribs are robust, about as wide as their interspaces, with a fairly pronounced shoulder toward the suture. The spiral cords surmount the axial ribs.
