Rhomboidella prideauxi (Leach, 1815)
English Channel & S. England to St. Helena, to Adriatic. Attached by its byssus on various substrates, from sublittoral zone down to continental shelf.
Original taxon: Modiola prideaux (sic).
Synonyms: asperula, prideauxiana, rhombea.

« Modiola Prideaux – Prideaux’s Modiola: Hinder part of the shell with elongated cancelli; hinder side with a rounded wing; anterior side towards the middle, broadly sinuated. The dioscovery of this beautiful little shell […] is due to C. Prideaux, Esq. of Kingsbridge: several specimens were found by that gentleman amongst sand, from Milton on the southern coast of Devon, and it is named after him; a tribute due to one of the most zealous and active investigators of the marine zoology of Britain. » – W. E. Leach: The zoological miscellany vol. II, London 1815, via BHL.
The prodissoconch, typical of the genus, is adorned with some concentric lamellae, while the rest of the shell is clathrate.

« Hinge plate with an irregularly crenulated swollen area beneath the beaks » (MBSBI).
